Inside WLTD's writing camps

WLTD Entertainment runs songwriting camps in France, bringing outside writers, producers and composers together with the label's own writers.

WLTD Entertainment runs songwriting camps in France. Alongside managing its catalogues, it is one of the two things the label actually does.

What a camp is

A group of writers, producers and composers from outside the label spend concentrated time in a room with WLTD's own writers — Simon Rosenfeld and Myla, who are both working songwriters as well as recording artists.

The point is volume and collision. Put people who would not otherwise meet in the same space for a few days and songs come out that none of them would have written alone. Those songs then go one of two ways: pitched to other artists, or kept for WLTD's own.

Why it is worth doing

A catalogue does not grow on release schedules alone. It grows on writing, and writing is easier in company than in isolation — particularly for producers who otherwise spend their working lives alone in a room with a screen.

For the outside participants the draw is the same in reverse: access to a room they would have to assemble themselves, in a city that is one of the better places in Europe to do it.

Coming from across Europe, writing for everywhere

The camps are deliberately not French-only. The aim is to bring writers into France from across Europe and to send the results outward — which is the same shape as the rest of the label's work, where French artists have found their largest audiences well outside France.
